The Certified Early Childhood Education Professional (CECEP) credential validates advanced, practice-
based competence in early childhood education and care. Informed by contemporary early
childhood research, EYFS-informed principles (awareness level) and the UK Professional Standards
Framework (UKPSF), CECEP confirms capability across child development, play-based curriculum and
environment design (indoor/outdoor), inclusion and SEND, wellbeing and safeguarding awareness,
family partnerships, and data-informed quality improvement—so centres, schools and employers
can trust the holder to deliver consistently high-quality practice and improved outcomes for young
children and their families.

  • Core theories of cognitive, social–emotional, language and physical development.
  • Developmentally appropriate expectations and observation of play, interaction and learning.
  • The role of play, attachment and key-person relationships in learning and wellbeing.
  • Routines, caregiving practices and responsive interactions that support security and exploration.
  • Curriculum intent and planning across key developmental/learning domains.
  • Indoor/outdoor environment design, including nature and loose-parts play with clear learning intentions.
  • Observational strategies, documentation (learning stories, portfolios) and assessment for learning.
  • Identifying strengths, interests and needs; planning next steps and small-group/individual support.
  • Inclusive, culturally responsive practice and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) at awareness level.
  • Supporting SEND, neurodiverse and multilingual/EAL children; working with specialists and support plans (awareness).
  • Promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience and self-regulation through daily practice.
  • Safeguarding principles, recognising and responding to concerns (awareness), and health & safety basics in early years settings.
  • Building trusting partnerships with families; communication and family learning activities.
  • Using simple data and reflective tools to contribute to self-evaluation and continuous improvement at setting level.
