Course Overview

The Certified Early Childhood Education Professional (CECEP) credential validates advanced, practice-
based competence in early childhood education and care. Informed by contemporary early
childhood research, EYFS-informed principles (awareness level) and the UK Professional Standards
Framework (UKPSF), CECEP confirms capability across child development, play-based curriculum and
environment design (indoor/outdoor), inclusion and SEND, wellbeing and safeguarding awareness,
family partnerships, and data-informed quality improvement—so centres, schools and employers
can trust the holder to deliver consistently high-quality practice and improved outcomes for young
children and their families.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:

Apply key theories of early childhood development to plan responsive, play-based learning and care.
Design and implement play-rich indoor and outdoor environments, including nature and loose-parts play, with clear learning intentions.
Plan and deliver EYFS-informed (awareness) curriculum experiences that support progression across key developmental domains.
Use observation, documentation and assessment cycles to understand children’s learning, identify needs and plan next steps.
Implement inclusive, culturally responsive practice, including reasonable adjustments for SEND and support for multilingual/EAL children.
Embed everyday wellbeing and safeguarding awareness in routines, interactions and environment design.
Build effective partnerships with parents/carers and community services that reinforce children’s learning and care.
Use simple indicators (engagement, progress, attendance, family feedback) and reflective practice to contribute to quality enhancement and centre improvement.

Entry Requirements

Minimum 1 year of recent experience in early childhood education and care (birth–5/6 years) in a centre, school or home-based setting; or completion of a Whitestone Early Childhood Professional/Professional Diploma with current practice.
Proficiency in English (IELTS 5.5 or equivalent recommended).
Basic digital literacy for blended/online learning, documentation and assessment submission.

Programme Structure & Modules

Module 1 – Child Development and Learning in the Early Years

Core theories of cognitive, social–emotional, language and physical development.
Developmentally appropriate expectations and observation of play, interaction and learning.

Module 2 – Play-Based Pedagogy, Relationships and Everyday Care

The role of play, attachment and key-person relationships in learning and wellbeing.
Routines, caregiving practices and responsive interactions that support security and exploration.

Module 3 – Curriculum, Environments and Nature Play (EYFS-Informed, Awareness)

Curriculum intent and planning across key developmental/learning domains.
Indoor/outdoor environment design, including nature and loose-parts play with clear learning intentions.

Module 4 – Observation, Assessment and Planning for Progress

Observational strategies, documentation (learning stories, portfolios) and assessment for learning.
Identifying strengths, interests and needs; planning next steps and small-group/individual support.

Module 5 – Inclusion, SEND, Culture and Multilingual Learners

Inclusive, culturally responsive practice and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) at awareness level.
Supporting SEND, neurodiverse and multilingual/EAL children; working with specialists and support plans (awareness).

Module 6 – Wellbeing, Safeguarding and Health & Safety (Awareness)

Promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience and self-regulation through daily practice.
Safeguarding principles, recognising and responding to concerns (awareness), and health & safety basics in early years settings.

Module 7 – Family Partnerships, Community Links and Quality Enhancement

Building trusting partnerships with families; communication and family learning activities.
Using simple data and reflective tools to contribute to self-evaluation and continuous improvement at setting level.
