Advanced Professional Certificate in Air Cargo, ULD Management & Dangerous Goods Handling (IATA DGR Awareness)
The Advanced Professional Certificate in Air Cargo, ULD Management & Dangerous Goods
Handling (IATA DGR Awareness) prepares cargo, ramp, and ground handling personnel to accept.
Course Overview
The Advanced Professional Certificate in Air Cargo, ULD Management & Dangerous Goods
Handling (IATA DGR Awareness) prepares cargo, ramp, and ground handling personnel to accept,
build, secure, and move air cargo and mail safely in accordance with international aviation practices.
The programme integrates air cargo processes, ULD safety and integrity, and IATA Dangerous
Goods Regulations (DGR) awareness-level requirements, so participants understand what can be
accepted, what must be rejected, and when to escalate to DG-qualified staff. It is designed for GHAs,
airline cargo stations, 3PLs operating at airports, and airport academies that need a standard,
auditable training pathway.
Why This Course is Important?
- Cargo is safety-critical: Improperly built ULDs or undeclared DG can lead to in-flight fire, structural damage, or load shift.
- Airline/airport audit pressure: Airlines increasingly expect ISAGO-style, documented training for cargo and ULD staff.
- Commercial impact: Correct acceptance, labelling, and documentation reduce delays, offloads, and rework costs.
- Career mobility: IATA-aligned cargo skills are portable across airlines, handlers, and freight operations.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
- Describe the end-to-end air cargo and mail flow (acceptance → build-up → storage → ramp → uplift → delivery).
- Apply ULD build-up and restraint requirements to protect aircraft structure and centre of gravity.
- Identify common ULD types, components, and serviceability checks (dents, tears, locks, nets, straps).
- Follow IATA DGR awareness-level rules: recognise DG hazard classes, markings/labels, documentation basics, and when to refuse or escalate.
- Handle special cargo (AVI, PER, VAL, HUM, DGR-limited, lithium battery shipments – awareness) in line with airline instructions.
- Use cargo checklists and documentary controls to support airline/authority audits.
- Cooperate with ramp/load control teams to ensure safe, accurate, and on-time uplift.
Target Audience
- Airline and GHA cargo & warehouse staff
- Ramp and ULD build-up teams
- Freight forwarder / GSA staff working inside airport facilities
- Station supervisors and quality/safety staff in cargo operations
- Learners progressing from passenger/ramp roles into cargo specialisation
Entry Requirements
- Prior exposure to airport/ground handling operations is recommended.
- Ability to read and complete operational forms in English (IELTS 5.0–5.5 or equivalent suggested).
- Local security/airside pass and medical requirements apply (as per employer/airport).
- Note: This course provides IATA DGR awareness level, not a full category-specific DG shipper/acceptance approval.
