A practice-centred programme that equips early years and school staff to recognise, respond to,
record, and refer safeguarding concerns while promoting pupil wellbeing. Informed by KCSIE
(Keeping Children Safe in Education) awareness, EYFS safeguarding and welfare requirements
awareness, and international good practice, the course develops confident frontline practice:
recognising indicators of abuse, managing disclosures, maintaining accurate records, escalating
concerns, and working effectively with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and external
agencies. (This course supports professional practice; it is not legal advice and does not replace
statutory training required by employers or regulators.)

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
- Explain safeguarding principles, roles and responsibilities (including DSL/Deputy DSL) and safer culture.
- Recognise indicators of abuse/neglect (physical, emotional, sexual, neglect) and specific safeguarding issues (e.g., peer-on-peer abuse, bullying, grooming/exploitation awareness, online safety, harmful sexual behaviour awareness, FGM and forced marriage awareness, radicalisation awareness).
- Respond to a disclosure with sensitivity; apply listen–reassure–do not promise confidentiality–record–refer.
- Record concerns factually and securely; follow information-sharing principles and GDPR awareness.
- Use reporting and escalation routes (to DSL, social care, police as appropriate) and follow up professionally.
- Understand risk assessment, early help, and multi-agency working; contribute to safety planning.
- Promote wellbeing and resilience through curriculum, environment, and family partnerships.
- Apply professional boundaries, whistleblowing, and safer working practice.

Entry Requirements
- Current or prospective work in an education/early years setting recommended.
- English proficiency (IELTS 5.5 or equivalent suggested).
- Ability to complete short scenario tasks; employer policies should be available for reference where possible.
