Advanced Professional Certificate in Device-Based Facials: Dermaplaning, Hydrofacial & Advanced Modalities
A practice-intensive programme for non-medical aesthetic practitioners who deliver device-assisted
facial treatments. The course builds advanced, safety-led competence in dermaplaning, hydro-
dermabrasion/hydrofacial-type treatments.
Course Overview
A practice-intensive programme for non-medical aesthetic practitioners who deliver device-assisted
facial treatments. The course builds advanced, safety-led competence in dermaplaning, hydro-
dermabrasion/hydrofacial-type treatments (brand-neutral), and selected advanced modalities (e.g.,
ultrasonic/skin scrubber, microcurrent awareness, LED phototherapy, low-energy RF awareness) in
line with device IFUs and insurer/regulatory expectations. You will master client selection,
contraindication screening, aseptic workflow, parameter setting, post-care, and incident
response—so results are consistent, ethical, and audit-ready.
Why This Course is Important?
- Safety first: Structured hygiene, blade/device control, and evidence-grade records reduce avoidable harm.
- Predictable outcomes: Assessment → modality matching → parameter discipline → after- care improves results and reviews.
- Commercial confidence: Clear service menus, bundles, pricing logic, and rebooking cadence drive revenue responsibly.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
- Conduct advanced consultation & risk screening (history, medications, Fitzpatrick typing) and decide to proceed, defer, or refer.
- Perform dermaplaning using correct blade handling, stretch/tension, pass control, and disposal within non-medical scope.
- Deliver hydro-dermabrasion/hydrofacial-type protocols (exfoliation, vacuum, fluidics/serum stages) in line with device IFUs and hygiene requirements.
- Deploy adjunct modalities (ultrasonic/skin scrubber, LED, microcurrent awareness, low- energy RF awareness) with suitable indications, parameters, and sequencing.
- Apply IPC & room workflow (trolley set-up, zoning, single-use items, sharps/waste where applicable) and manage consumables safely (COSHH-style).
- Recognise endpoints vs adverse events, deliver first responses, document, and escalate appropriately.
- Provide post-care & home-care instructions, sun protection guidance, and plan responsible rebooking.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation (consent, batch/lot & device logs, photography, post- care, incidents/CAPA).
Target Audience
- Experienced beauty therapists/aestheticians progressing to device-assisted facials
- Salon/spa/clinic practitioners and supervisors standardising protocols and safety
- Clinic owners introducing multi-modal facial platforms in non-medical settings
Entry Requirements
- Age 18+; prior practical certificate in skin/facial therapy (or equivalent experience).
- English proficiency (IELTS 5.0–5.5 or equivalent recommended).
- Commitment to non-medical scope and local licensing/insurance compliance.
Programme Structure & Modules

- Fitzpatrick typing; heightened PIH and sensitivity considerations
- Informed consent; scope of practice & referral boundaries
- Barrier function & exfoliation tolerance
- Wound-healing awareness
- Sensitisation & cumulative irritation
- Blades, handles, PPE; aseptic set-up and field maintenance
- Skin prep, stretch/tension, angle & pass control; endpoint recognition
- Indications (dullness, vellus hair removal, smooth canvas) vs contraindications (active acne in area, inflamed skin, recent peels/needling, fresh scars)
- Blade disposal, sharps/waste segregation where applicable
- Device components, serums/fluids, filters & hygiene discipline
- Exfoliation tips, vacuum settings, fluidic stages, and sequencing per IFU

- Disinfection & sterilisation awareness; fluid handling and spill response
- Laundry, linen, and environmental cleaning schedules
- Patch-testing/compatibility checks where indicated
- Safe sequencing (e.g., dermaplaning → hydro steps → LED; avoid risky combinations)
- Course planning, spacing, and cumulative irritation control
- Barrier repair, gentle cleansers, strict SPF, actives re-introduction timing
- Expectations by skin type; PIH minimisation in higher Fitzpatrick types
- Recognising over-exfoliation, abrasions, suction injury, irritation/burn risk
