Professional Certificate in Health Coaching Skills, Behaviour Change & Client Communication
The Professional Certificate in Health Coaching Skills, Behaviour Change & Client Communication
develops practical, evidence-informed coaching capability for professionals supporting lifestyle and
wellbeing change.
Course Overview
The Professional Certificate in Health Coaching Skills, Behaviour Change & Client Communication
develops practical, evidence-informed coaching capability for professionals supporting lifestyle and
wellbeing change. Grounded in behaviour-change science (non-clinical scope), the programme
blends core coaching competencies, motivational interviewing principles, habit formation, goal-
setting, values-based work and communication frameworks—so practitioners can hold effective,
ethical conversations that help clients move from intention to sustained action in nutrition,
movement, sleep, stress and other wellness domains.
Why This Course is Important?
- From advice to action: Information alone rarely changes behaviour; coaching skills turn knowledge into sustainable habits.
- Relationship-centred: Strong communication and trust increase adherence, satisfaction and outcomes.
- Evidence-aware: Draws on established behaviour-change models and coaching best practice rather than “quick-fix” approaches.
- Professional credibility: Clear boundaries, ethics and scope of practice strengthen collaboration with healthcare and organisational stakeholders.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
- Describe key concepts from behaviour-change science (e.g., motivation, self-efficacy, readiness, habits) and apply them in practice (non-clinical).
- Use core coaching skills—active listening, powerful questioning, summarising and reflecting—to build trust and rapport.
- Co-create realistic, values-aligned wellbeing goals and action plans with clients across lifestyle domains.
- Apply motivational interviewing–style techniques (spirit, change talk, rolling with resistance) at an awareness level.
- Support clients to identify barriers, design small steps, and build accountability and self- monitoring strategies.
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with diverse clients, including those who are ambivalent or discouraged.
- Maintain ethical boundaries, respect scope of practice and recognise when to refer to medical, psychological or specialist professionals.
Target Audience
- Health and wellness coaches (new or developing)
- Fitness professionals, personal trainers and yoga/pilates instructors
- Nutrition and wellness practitioners working in non-clinical settings
