Professional Certificate in Airport & Ground Handling Operations Essentials
The Professional Certificate in Airport & Ground Handling Operations Essentials provides a solid,
operations-focused introduction to how airports, airlines, and ground handling agents (GHAs) work
together to deliver safe, punctual, and customer-ready flights.
Course Overview
The Professional Certificate in Airport & Ground Handling Operations Essentials provides a solid,
operations-focused introduction to how airports, airlines, and ground handling agents (GHAs) work
together to deliver safe, punctual, and customer-ready flights. The programme covers airport
layouts and airside rules, aircraft turnaround stages, ramp and baggage safety, basic documentation,
and service quality expectations based on recognised aviation practices (IATA IGOM, AHM, and ICAO
airside safety principles). It is designed for new joiners and for organisations that want a
standardised, safety-first induction for ground staff.
Why This Course is Important?
- Safety first: Ground operations are high-risk (moving aircraft, GSE, jet blast, FOD). Trained staff reduce incidents and damage.
- On-time performance: Understanding the turnaround sequence improves coordination and reduces delays.
- International alignment: Using IATA/ICAO language and processes makes staff mobile across airports and handlers.
- Customer impact: Well-run airside and baggage operations directly affect passenger satisfaction and airline reputation.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
- Describe the airport operating environment (landside vs airside, restricted areas, apron/stand layout).
- Explain the end-to-end aircraft turnaround process and the role of each ground service.
- Apply core ramp and apron safety rules (PPE, FOD control, GSE parking, equipment clearances).
- Identify main ground support equipment (GSE) and their safe use at the aircraft stand.
- Follow basic baggage and loading procedures to prevent mishandling and damage.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with airline, ATC/operations, and other ground teams.
- Contribute to on-time performance and service quality using checklists and SOPs.

- Newly appointed airport, airline, or GHA ground staff
- Baggage, ramp, and marshalling personnel (entry level)
